The Annual Family Church Service was held at St. Mary’s Church, Woodbridge, on Sunday 24th. September 2017, where over 150 were present, which included Brother Knights, their wives or partners, friends and family, to witness our usual Knight Templar Service, performed by the Rev. David Hanwell and choir of the Church, with much thanks to Rev. Canon Kevan McCormack, the vicar, who unfortunately could not be present due to other commitments..
The three readings were read by the Provincial Prior, E. Kt. David Woodings and V. Ill Bro. Andrew Tayler the Precepts were read by the Prelate V. E. Kt. Dr. John Elmore, who is also the Intendant General in the Order of the Red Cross of Constantine, in the Division of East Anglia.
After the Service, a tea was provided in the Community Hall, by our Caterers, Housdons, and by the comments I received, going round the room, it was well received by those that had decided to join in the completion of the day. We were of course pleased to receive Steve and Sue Allen, the Provincial Grand Master and Grand Superintendant, of Norfolk; Dr. David and Anne Woodings the Inspector General in the Rose Croix for the District of Suffolk; Andrew Tayler the Inspector General in the Rose Croix District of Norfolk; and a very young looking John Mallett, who was the Steward at the Royal Assembly Rooms in Great Yarmouth for many years.
I must say that although we had a good attendance at our Church Service ever, I was disappointed that many of our Preceptors, Registrars, Great Officers and Senior Officers were not present, on an occasion where all the family can be included.
These events do not just happen, and I would like to thank E. Kts. Colin Birkbeck, and David Adams for their invaluable help in making certain that all the arrangements went well. To E. Kts Robin Shaw, David Abbott and Tony Mason for overseeing our ceremonial was performed in such a magnificent way, which says such a lot for our wonderful Order.
Thanks must also go to E. Kt. David Hedges, the Commander of my Bodyguard, and to the Brother Knights who accompanied him, for such a superb display of protection that they gave me on the day.
Thanks to the 13 Banner Bearers, yes 13, two Banners were missing, which was rather disappointing, as all Preceptories had plenty of time to secure their Banners from the various premises, so I sincerely hope that we can do much better for our Provincial meeting next year, which is to be held on Saturday 24th February 2018.
The collection amounted to £443.35, a tremendous effort so thank you all, for helping such a wonderful church, and the Province have made this up to £600.
I hope that you will all put the date of Sunday 23rd. September 2018, for our next Annual Family Church Service, which will be held at Wymondham Abbey, in Norfolk.
