Over one hundred and thirty Knight Templars and their wives or partners, accompanied the Provincial Prior, Stewart C.L. Middleton K.C.T., and his wife Sally, to a wonderful Banquet at Debden Suite, Ufford Park, on Saturday 23rd. November 2019, which was enjoyed by all those who were present.
The room was decorated in a style that is synonymous with our past Provincial East Anglia Banquets, and was admired and commented upon by so many, as were our resident mannequins, Tom Dick and Harry, who by now, must be the most photographed!
I must now apologise to our Queen, who in my excitement of the event, I forgot to toast, and to her, and to you all, I am sorry, and I hope that you forgive me, as it proves that even a Provincial Prior can make a mistake!!
As usual I am indebted to E. Knights Stephen Mann, Roger Dor, Mike Smith, Richard Brown & Robin Shaw for making certain that all the arrangements went without a problem, and for that, both Sally and I thank you for such a wonderful occasion, especially for the beautiful bouquet of flowers and the bottle of colourless liquid, that were presented to us both.
The assembled company were entertained after dinner by Charlie Haylock, with his special brand of humour that can only be enjoyed by the people of East Anglia.
The Banquet next year will be celebrated earlier, as it will be the last one that I will officiate at, and will be held at Clare College, Cambridge, and will be on Saturday, 18th. July 2020, and as the numbers will be limited can I urge you to book in early.
The staff at Ufford Park, must be congratulated for the delightful way that they managed to manoeuvre between the tables, serving our selection of food, that we had all pre ordered, and was served with perfection.
Lastly I must thank E. Knight Mike Smith, for the delightful way in which he proposed my toast, highlighting the fact I can remember names, well I am setting you all a challenge, which Brother Knight now has the nick name of, ‘Sat-Nav?’
